I want to create a wireless ad-hoc network in NetSim where each device has a fixed radio range, say 500m. All receivers within this 500m of a transmitter should be able to decode the signal while those beyond 500m should not be able to. Is it possible to have such a model in NetSim?
You can use the simplistic range-based path loss model available in NetSim. Zero path loss till “range” and infinite path loss after “range”. But this is not an accurate model for the propagation of radio waves. The log distance model can be used but involves a few calculations. You have to set the path loss exponent such that at 500m the received power (transmit power less path loss) is less than the receive sensitivity.
* The easiest option is to use the Range-Based Pathloss Model in NetSim. It allows users to enter a fixed value in meters as the range for devices in a Wireless network.
* Receivers at or within Range meters see a 0 dB path loss. Hence received power equals transmit power.
* Receivers beyond Range see a 1000 dB path loss. Hence received power will be close to -1000 dBm i.e., zero in linear units.
