I set up a synthesize reaction and used DMF as my solvent. After the reaction completed, I transferred solution in to a beaker and added about 90ml water into the beaker (picture attached). Water makes the color turn from clear dark brown to the color in the picture. Looks like my reaction product is not soluble in water but didn't precipitate. Any suggestion, how I can extract the product from this mixture?
T O separate reaction product from the solvent first remove excess of solvent by vacuum distillation then pour in ice water mixture to get product.Monitor reaction by TLC to see weather reaction is complete , otherwise continue heating for long time.
Hi Tb Bo, if freeze dryer is available put the solution in a centrifuge tube and freeze it in a freezer overnight, then use freeze drier to get your product.
remove the excess of the solvent by vacuum distillation or filtration
try with rotatory evaporator to get the solid product.
check the boiling point first.
