Hello,

I need to analyze data with a Spearman’s correlation test. I should find the correlation between one ordinal and one continuous variable. The ordinal variable goes from 0 to 5, where 0 represents the absence of lesions, and 5 represents presence of severe lesions.

I have been reading that to rank data for a Spearman’s correlation test I should give “rank 1” to to the highest value of the variable, “rank 2“ to the second and so on. For the continuous variable this is clear. However, I don’t understand if I also have to do it with the ordinal variable or if it is already considered ranked. If it has to be ranked as well, then does it mean that I have to give a “rank 1” to the individuals with a lesion score of 5, since it is the highest value?

I hope my doubts are clear. Thank you in advance for the answers!
