@ Elkin Galeano, Thanks but i thought there is an easier or i thought a novice like my colleaque and i could use? Because Marine biologists are not readily available in Nigeria.
Best way could be collaborate with other research group who has the essential skills to identify marine sponge or get it done from other marine biologist. As Elkin mentioned it is difficult for a novice to classify sponge taxonomically.
The resolution of classification power is in the infrastructure you have.
One can start with usual morphology based assesment and then move onto molecular techniques...the technology platform to be used is of course dependent on the end scientific goal.
First of all, you have to set up a cooperation with a diver to collect, and the best that this diver is already a biologist with comperhensive experience in Taxonomic profiles of the different families, orders, genuse and species. Then after you collect you material and already you have the taxonomic profile , you have to double check this profile with a scientist within the marine chemical ecology domain. Also, it is more better to send a spiment to one of the well knowen musuems such the Musuem of the UK, or the netherland to be sure of the profile
