Hello,
I am currently looking at predictors of effective coaching and have found that both coach gender and whether the coach is internal or external, have a statistically significant effect on each of the three outcome variables.
I would like to be able to test for any interactions but am struggling to discover how this is done in SPSS Adv.
I would like to test for interactions between:
- coach gender and coachee gender, and
- coach gender and internal/external coach
against each of the three dependent (outcome) variables.
Could someone please help me with how I need to input this data into GENLIN in SPSS Adv in order to be able to look for interactions? (I am unable to use ANOVA as the three dependent variables are all Likert scales).

You don't want to use SPSS but R (free downloadable software that is very powerful). You want to use ordinal logistic regression because (I assume) order matters in you DVs. If not then ordinary logistic regression will work but it needs to be multinomial if the DV likert scales have more than 2 choices. See examples and cases in the attached file. An interaction of variables A and B is included in your model by adding an A*B term. A basic introduction to R is also attached. Best wishes, David

Hi David, I have installed R and skimmed through both attached documents. I am overwhelmed at the task of learning a command prompt language and honestly don't think I'll be able to tackle this in the short amount of time I have available (I'm expecting a baby on 27th March and need to submit my research paper before he gets here!).
I am hoping that someone will be able to guide me through the steps to take /options I need to select in SPSS Adv in order to carry out these two tests.
