Using a 4 by 5 Split Plot Design layout, there are 20 panelists for sensory evaluation. There are 4 different samples at 5 different concentrations.
I need detailed explanation on WHOLE PLOT, SPLIT PLOT, and their factors. Also, how do I analyse an experiment with this kind of design using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). Please help!
As I understand, you have a Between (Whole plot) x Within (Split plot) factorial design. The Between subjects factor is concentrations, with 5 levels. The Within subjects (or repeated measures) factor is samples, with 4 levels. You can run a repeated measures ANOVA (google, e.g. "SPSS repeated measures anova"). But, --although you have a fair number of subjects, i.e. 20-- first check de normality of distributions with histograms (for the 4 samples separately over the 5 concentrations). If the distributions are e.g. very very skewed, try a nonparametric alternative like with the nparLD R package or SAS macros.
Yes, you can use SPSS or SAS software and aslo there are some codes we can use in ANOVA for any Design.
