i am trying to find outh the simplest and accurate method of determing the amount of free/residual 1.3-butadiene and styrene from in process latex/polymerization.
my challenge is to accurately extract styrene from latex, and to determine the amount of butadiene at the same time/analysis.

you can used dialysis process to purify of latex and then used UV-visible to quantify the residual monomers (in aqueous phase). You can use a calibration curve to quantification process to both monomers, but the important is that these monomers not absorb at the same wave length and the difference between these have to minimum 20 nm.
Residual monomers are frequently determined by gas chromatography. In your cases it should be preceded by liquid or solid phase extraction. It should be standardized using known solutions.
You can use headspace-gas chromatography with an Al2O3 column. That is the simplest way for solid samples. Butadiene is very volatile (bp -4°C), so your sampling procedure will have a huge influence on your measurment result.
