There are many variables affect the fish catch, but how can measure effect of the ICTs like GPS, Echo sounder etc. in production. there are some control variables or instrumental variables model. how can I use this model?
I think you can try to tackle it as the effect of technology on fish catch. I would suggest maybe carrying out a time series analysis over the years to determine the impact or carry out an adoption study on the same
Sabu. Have you tried to look at attempting to isolate the effect of GPS or Echo Sounder using Propensity Score Matching methods?? You want to try this type of semi-parametric method. In this case you will be attempting to award attribution to use of GPS on productivity. However, you need to collect data on fishermen who use GPS or Echo sounder and those who do not use these ICT methods (proxy of counterfactual) and then try to see the effect on fish catch. Then the question would be does use of GPS to catch fish imply more fish are caught per person per day or not? If so, is the difference between the fish catch for the control and treatment sample significantly different after controlling for many other variables that affect fish catch and the adoption of GPS gadgets??
Look into this option of Matching estimators modelling and see. I hope I have partially answered your question. If not, kindly rephrase it to be more clear.
But here the problem is all are (fishing boats) using gps, echo-sounder, wireless etc, then how i can measure the only impact of ICT on productivity of fish. if a take technology impact it comes other many things, but i want to only the impact of gps, echo, wireless etc of electronic gadgets. measuring haves and have not is possible in my case. then how i can tackle this problem with primary data analysis. I am thinking use principal component analysis with fixing certain assumption. but i am not sure even this is right or not....pls help one....
