I am using a 26MeV Cu7+ beam from a 5MV tandem for Heavy Ion ERD measurements. In addition to the scattered incident beam (for heavy element targets), I also keep getting an artefact that looks like a Ti signal irrespective of what sample I analysed. Could it be there's a Ti impurity from the source that also comes right through to the target? The ion source is an 860C sputter source.
I do not know HI-ERDA. However for the heavy ion beam tunning I suggest you can take Lise++ for a try.

What species ion beam is injecting in the accel? What is the TV used to get 26 MeV for Cu+7 (charge state 7?) What is the ion source? Sputtering ion source?
Depending on settings it is possible that TiO- has been injected together with Cu-, and that Ti5+ (~18.7 MeV) is passing through the final analysing magnet together with 65 MeV Cu7+.
