Lino Sanchez, if I were you, I would rely on reliable, peer reviewed and citable sources (some of the links I've attached) for Land Surface Temperature (LST) estimation. I assume you are using Landsat (thermal band) for LST. Most of us (I did the same a few years ago), new to this field, start by searching on the web (e.g., Youtube) for a 'quick and easy' method to calculate LST. I learned (still learning!) much later that atmospheric correction of thermal bands are crucial for LST estimation and the same goes for emissivity which is a parameter for calculating LST. If you notice, the youtube link that you attached, hardly talks about atmospheric correction! Moreover, Landsat 8 which has two thermal bands (Band 10 and Band 11), has issues with 'Stray Light' effect which has rendered USGS to provide the following statement, 'it is recommended that users refrain from using band 11 data in science studies.'

However, it is heartening to know that, LST can be 'easily' estimated using the single thermal band of either Landsat 4-7 (Band 6) or Landsat 8 (Band 10), if the emissivity parameter is known separately. People generally use NDVI threshold method to estimate emissivity because this is the easiest method! The accuracy of the method that you use to estimate LST, would depend on the closeness of in-situ ground truth data to the remote sensing derived land surface temperature values. Only then you can say for certain whether the youtube video's method is reliable or some other method. As far as the method (Simplified Radiative Transfer Model) that I suggested, links are attached below.

Thank you very much for this very thoughtful and thorough response! I am definitely a beginner at this, and with all the different remote sensing products out there, it can be overwhelming. I just do not have the expertise to work from the equations and formulas in scholarly papers at this point.

Land Surface Temperature requires the use of thermal bands. However, the NDVI is based on Near Infrared and red Bands.
