I have taken 300mg of MWCNT, heated it for 3 hours under reflux in 100 ml of mixture acid (H2SO4 + HNO3) in a 3:1 ratio, and maintained the temperature at 95 degrees. I am using a PTFE membrane filter having 0.45 micron pore size. However I lose most of the material during the chemical functionalization. Does anyone know what I am doing wrong?

3 hrs acid reflux at 95C !!! You may end up with graphene nano ribbons...
HI, What ever ur doing is good but after reflux dont go for filter it...wash with Deioized water until pH was neutral then after that go for drying.. by this u wont get any material waste... hope this answer will helps u...
The oxidation condition looks too harsh, as Sridhar Vadahadambi pointed, it is possible that the MWNT might be nearly "pulverized" in such condition. in case of using 3:1 mix acid, just 2hrs at 60 C Degree is enough, this is my case. However, this should be changed according to the MWNT provider. I play with ten or more MWNT species from different providers, and It is also true that some MWNT would end up with carbon nanoribbons in a seemingly milder condition and that some MWNT never be "exfoliated" or "unzipped" even in an extremely oxidative condition. So, what I want to say is that "test many possibilities and find your own condition which is suitable for your MWNT!" Thanks
Great answers - We usually treat SWCNTs and MWCNTs by 1-3 hr oxidation under sonication, but while maintaining the water near room temperature. High temperature significantly degrades the tubes and compromises the electrical properties (and optical, mechanical, thermal, etc.). After sonicating at room temperature, we did not find any detectable evidence of degradation in electrical or optical properties. I can provide some references if you are interested.
