I am working on a Signature Identification and Verification task. I have found decent number of approaches for the verification task though. But I am having trouble approaching the first one. Help needed.

There are many approaches available to spot the signature.
The problem depends on the document structure and distribution of data.
Can you share a sample document image? So that I shall help you.
Some sample images would be handy.
If the rest of the document is printed (not handwritten), you could do a couple of erosions, depending on the thickness of the signature. After that, the signature will be gone, while the text (be it thinner) will remain.
Works only if the signature is thinner than the printed text.
Well , requires ML /CNN for identifying . Start at looking "graphological analysis" .
Yep involves skeltonization and segmentation etc etc

Write the basic script say opening and choosing the ROI (where you find the signature) then can do some gimmicks .
