Acute bacterial prostatitis usually presents with sudden and severe symptoms, while chronic bacterial prostatitis is characterized by milder symptoms that may last a long time. Is it important to note that symptoms can vary from person to person.
Acute Bacterial Prostatitis (ABP): Typically presents with sudden onset of symptoms, which are generally severe. These include chills, fever, and pelvic or lower back pain. Patients might also experience painful urination (dysuria), urgent and frequent urination, and possibly urinary retention.
Chronic Bacterial Prostatitis (CBP): Presents with milder, more persistent symptoms that have been ongoing for at least three months. Symptoms might include recurrent urinary tract infections, mild to moderate pelvic pain, discomfort in the perineal area, urinary frequency and urgency, and sometimes painful ejaculation.
