I have researched and written about the use of CATs as predictors of future performance in applied skills GCSE subjects such as art, design and technology. My conclusions suggest that the questions posed on CATs do not relate closely to the skills, knowledge and aptitudes needed to achieve well in applied skills subjects. It would be very useful to hear from practitioners who either confirm this view, or conversely, find CAT data useful in the applied skills subjects and can indicate how the test results relate to the types of knowledge and aptitudes needed to achieve well in design and engineering related fields. Many thanks.
