There are at least three ways to do particle size analysis:
1. Microscopy with either hand measurements, or with computer software that can recognize the desired particles and measure them. This is a static system.
2. With laser scattering (Mie Calculations), based upon free-falling particles.
3. With particle shape analyzers which work something like laser scattering (free-falling particles), but rather than a laser and detector, the instrument is equipped with a lens(s) and high-speed camera. Shape and size can be calculated based upon the particle images taken with the high-speed camera. Free-falling allows all possible orientations.
