I am currently working on a manuscript using some U-Pb zircon data and whole rock Lu-Hf data of granitic rocks from southeastern Ghana. However, I'm facing some difficulty working with the whole rock Lu-Hf data since most authors and researchers commonly employ the in-situ zircon Lu-Hf method. How different is the whole rcok Lu-Hf method from the in-situ zircon Lu-Hf method?? Can anyone kindly recommend articles or research papers that employed the use of whole rock Lu-Hf method?????
Whole-rock Lu-Hf is rare since the whole-rock isotope data will include multiple phases and complex evolution of different minerals, It is difficult to consider that they are reliable (especially if the sample contains garnet ).
Zircon Lu-Hf isotope usually employed with combined systematics of individual zircon (U-Pb, O isotope, and REE) and they can provide more plausible insight into the crustal evolution process than whole-rock data.
