I am studying some amphibolite samples with a clay rich marl protholite. They mostly include amphibole + plagioclase + quartz + epidote + garnet. Their amphibole crystals are euhedral and prismatic in most of samples but in a small area they appear as needle fan-shaped crystals with no specific orientation that are accompanied by elongated euhedral garnet crystals. I want to know how crystal nucleation and growth rate led to formation these needle fan-shaped crystals? Here are the micro-photograph of euhedral and fan-shaped amphiboles.
