Recently I went to field work, and visit some presumably dinosaur eggs. But many questions have been raised regarding, preservation mechanisms, hatches periods of dinosaur eggs, weathering effect on these eggs, rate of sedimentation !!!!!!!!!
This is a great topic - that photo is really cool! Where did you see the eggs?
The paper on Henan eggs suggested by Dr. Jafar is a good place to start. You might follow up with papers by Jackson, Zelenitsky, Varricchio, and Grellet-Tinner (though I don't agree with everything he says).
Hayward's paper on nest burial is great for thinking about how eggs might get preserved longterm: " Turning eggs to fossils: A natural experiment in taphonomy"
Bernat Vila's paper on Sauropod nests is also pretty interesting. Its available open-access at PLOS: Article 3-D Modelling of Megaloolithid Clutches: Insights about Nest...
Some of your questions haven't been convincingly answered yet - I'd love to see someone figure out why dinosaur eggs are so common in some places and absent in others.
