Sometimes, the presence of hemighost cells in the peripheral blood film are associated with glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency. Can we use this as part of screening tests for G6PD deficiency. Are there other conditions where hemighost cells may be found in the peripheral blood film?

The eccentrocytes or Hemigost cells are a marker of the oxidative damage of RBC. The presence and the amount of the cells can help in defining the risk and the severity of hemolysis in a well known G6PD deficient patient but it can not help in diagnosis. Particularly the presence of hemigost will help in defining the cells which are going to hemolyse in the following 24-48 hours.
