I use the Diana software, and it calculates the crack bandwidth as a function of the mesh size. However, I need an independent value, so I could change the mesh without changing the crack bandwidth. Furthermore, in a reliable simulation, I need to represent adequately the tension softening of concrete, and it depends on the definition of the crack bandwidth.
In smeared crack numerical approach, factrue energy is often taken as the material behavior of concrete like density which is not changed with element size. However, in numerical analysis, fracture energy density is often used, so the crack bandwidth is often emploied and the damage value will be got. According to my understanding, the damage value is only a intermediate result. The crake width which can be got by the strain and crack bandwidth of the element is the value shoud be used, becaused this value eliminate the influnce of bandwidth finally. If you do not use bandwidth, you should use the constitutive modle defined by crack width got by experience directly.

Last year, I had a project a bout bandwidth crack and the numerical value of crack in concrete beam based on some pattern. I study an article in this field that the name of it was "Golden Ratio in the Crack Pattern of Reinforced Concrete Structures".
