The reason is that in China, coal power plants generate around 52% of the total electricity produced in the country, which is the main energy source used for this purpose, causing a high level of contamination. It is expected that by 2040 still, this type of fossil fuel will generate 45% of the total electricity to be produced in the country in that year. In 2016, the participation of coal power plants in China's electricity generation was about 72%.
