I want to calculate the density fluctuation in an optical wire where a media is embedded in a cladding that can be considered infinite (for now).

I have found reference on how to do it in optical fibre where the core and cladding are considered the same therefore simplifying greatly the calculation.

In my case, I don't think that assumption is correct and indeed the result is off the experimental value.

any idea on how to proceed?
