How can we map daughter tiller generation cohort ?

Hi all, I am working on my experiment on effects of different soil moisture regimes on demography of perennial grasses. I have grown grasses in pots with different soil moisture levels. Now i am harvesting them, and as they are perennial rhizomatous grasses, they have multiple of daughter and grand daughter tillers from their crowns and rhizomes. Therefore, I was interested to know, what can be best possible ways to map these different generation cohort and produce some quantifiable data for analysis.
