• Research coordinations
• Employability development

University becomes more productive when university maintains:

1. Flexibility in curriculum

2. Latest and job oriented courses

3. Emphasis on skill development

4. Emphasis on students employment

5. University-industry linkage

6. Selecting quality teachers

7. Good infrastructure

8. Avoid political interference

9. Continuous benchmarking of education standards

10. emphasis on Quality research

11. Promoting consultancy

12. Inviting successful and dynamic professors for interactions with students

13. Etc. ... !

If the mission of the university is just to produce teachers then it is okay to enable its teaching capabilities by training its teaching faculty for better delivery, promoting strong academic standing, having better infrastructures and equally important is visionary administration (very vital).  But if the university is to create knowledge, promote research and creativity to  bring positive impacts in society, then it has to grow in all directions for productivity and accomplishments of its missions :  teaching, research and creativity, publications and applications of results and availability of  financial resources. Any scientific activity is worth perusing if it produces knowledge to solve problems that changes society for better. 

Good question and fantastic answers so far.  The first and most important thing a university has to do for better productivity and efficiency is to impart a very good quality education.  Diversified curricula, frequent revisions of curricula according to the needs of industry and markets, training programmes for improving of life skills and soft skills,  setting up facilities for learning by doing etc. some of the necessary things they must plan for the fulfilment of the objectives. Ample opportunities for research and consultancy must be made available in the universities. Good infrastructure like library, laboratories,  residential and other related facilities, availability of good research funds  etc. are also important things to improve the quality and productivity of Universities.

Hats off to all   dear  friends  you have given very good suggestions Points are relevant. We need to implement this for the development of the healthy society .  Ethical practices required to  be follow are there which are to be taken care by the stake holders in education field . University should have  right   Teacher and leader. teachers  should be taken care off in all respect . Especially teachers associated with primary and secondary education. This education is very important for development of the right people in the society . This has to be linked to all the university program. Universities ought to be synonymous with productivity because such places gather " la crème de la crème" of a certain country under normal conditions. It is a shame for a university to wait for charities while it can make enormous amounts of money & developments by utilizing the available resources within its campus.

An old senior lecturer at certain university in a 3rd world country gave several suggestions to the administration including sustainable projects in which the students are trained & from which the university gains huge profits. The snobbish arrogant admin  just ignored or cheekily refused these suggestions over the years.

productivity of the university is highly focused on its abilities and material provided for faculty members and on the motivation of the teaching staff.

Motivation of the teacher would be the most significant component to increase the effectiveness and the productivity of the university.

Dear Dr. Hussein:

Increasing the productivity is per si a complex event, since require some kind of monitoring of the production of the system that in some point is equivalent to monitor and to rank the individual production of members of the university. In this sense, some heart can be broken and some soul can be scratched. Counterclockwise, the implementation of politics based on the simple adhesion is typically innocuous. Supposing the increasing of productivity as being possible, I think there is a set of item that can give to start in the process, as follow:

i) Hiring of external consultant to determine what the real level of production at a given moment.

ii) Based on a selected set of marks to determine the set of future indices to be reach in a macro plan: annual, bi, tri, and at a decade.

iii) Creation of an inner administrative organism to management of data and another moderator none based on a single person to decisions.

iv) All item components of  "the production" should gain transparency, further classification of its number and weight. This is a complex, since someone can has its production based on a great number of item that, in last analysis, might be irrelevant...a problem emerges here...

v) Plan of development of the institution; seems that only a modern and advanced university can transform its productivity.

vi) Plan of career that taking into account time-of-service and merit, in a moderate way.

vii) Fair remuneration of the major staff.

viii) Productivity should be awarded in conventional way but further cash-bonus is interesting, in addition to the salary.

ix) Functional infrastructure such as:

- open access to some data base; see all state Brazilian universities has open access 24 hours by day to system ISI Web of Science and its apparatus.

- further support to the mobility of the research/professor ranging, regional, continental and intercontinental events. Sometimes, there is some kind of funding but nobody substitute the professor/researcher in your classes.

- further support to the participation of undergraduate students in the research activities and activities involving infrastructure; for this all undergraduate body should be correlated to proper activities via governmental, local state and institutional kind of fellowship.

-further support to the Post-graduation program, increment of the mobility of all members, seems that a great numbers of short-time stages has actually been more effective that a small number and longtime stages.

x) Infrastructure should be provided and in due time, the return expected should be measured. Each area should receive the proper investment in infrastructure. Due difficulties of transportation , installation calibration and another “tions”, such kind of infrastructure should be thought in long time term, 10 years. Equipment considers of great size or specific capacities should be assigned to Centers inner to university, as microscopy, mechanical properties, etc...etc. Good or excellent contracts can be engineered with suppliers and makers of research and analysis equipment’s, when services are considered up to 10 years.

Happyness and productivity are very important  as suggested by AlGahraee . Any university program should be selected in such a way that each and every team is motived to perform, facilitated to do the team work

Research, teaching and application - are three activities which create, disseminate and make use of an information and know-how. I think teaching should be inclusive of new developments in any field and generating new curiosities to learn and discover. At the another hand, teaching should have applicability in the industries.

Good environment, library, laboratory, placement units etc. are supportive to this mission.

I think providing good higher education be a mission to the universities and the nation.

Every university is a silo of infinite energy and intelligence. However, they are dependent on government gratis and procedural quagmire. To unleash the potential of students and faculty, every university must strive for:

1. High level of interaction with the best universities of the country/world

2. Venture capital assistance by industries, philanthropic organizations and alumni for problems of great interest to potential teachers and students can go a long way in bringing out the latent talent. The problems must benefit the immediate society so that the effects can be felt.

3. Administrative procedures interrupt academic pursuits and should be reduced to the minimum.

4. Each university must decide what it calls as productivity every five years and must calibrate the achievements on an acceptable scale.

In the absence of a scale, productivity is volatile. 

The staff and facilities available at the University

Each university should take responsibility for how educated, and who educates, mindful of sołeczeństwie, which it releases into the hands of swójprodukt, which are people with higher education. From this we learn whom depends the future of the university, the country and consequently the world.

Universities need to find ways of engaging in more research that brings about innovative approaches and ideas to industry and real life problems by channeling adequate funds to these activities.

Performance and its lifting, always conversion was to other spheres and areas of life. Today we are trying to do with universities farmland or factory that deal with the teaching of the deal in life. According to me, the university aims to enlighten and teach at a higher level, so that logically use the acquired knowledge. One can not say raise efficiency of teaching, because we know that it remains limited to the human factor, on the one hand lecturer, researcher, on the other hand the student.

Yes, I agree exploration and modeling of innovative solutions that will arise in the minds of students with time, future scientists. In order to improve the quality of life. But it takes appropriate expenditure and the transition from an array of chalk to the projector, so really the quality of education does not change much. A teaching performance certainly is not affected.

Every University is, in a way, productive. If the question is about making them more productive and financially independent then I perfectly agree with 'the productivity pros' submitted by Qasim Mohammed Hussein.

"Expansion of university education without proportionate government budgetary support is creating acute financial pressure and universities are looking toward market for revenue generation by providing various products and services

to private clients.

However, the transformation of the university from a government funding to market-orientation is affecting the social structure of knowledge distribution as center of attention is shifted from social knowledge to market knowledge.

Knowledge created within such an environment becomes a marketable commodity. It can be bought and sold like any commodity.

Considering all the factors discussed above, a public policy on functioning of universities must be made, which must take into account both the impact of competitive global economy and the social responsibility of the universities."

Social media can be an infrastructure for establishing and enhancing such linkages in a transparent manner, for instance via the use of structured hash tags as defined at the first link below.

For making a university more productive, we have to match University practices with the changing environment.

Industry driven research by Staff and students by Industry Institute linkage is the best answer to improve the productivity of the university. Number of publication in National and International Journal and patents  registered by the University  improves productivity. Productivity of the University is always measured by funds recieved  from Indusry to develop Technology and processes 

In India, Govt. Sector Universities must change syllabi at regular interval for matching and making best fit with changing business environment.

 Improved productivity in the Spanish Public University System is therefore a priority, and the various political and university authorities are interested in knowing if university activities are maximising their performance given the existing resources

University should support research for the development of the Industry by adopting technological developments in the world. Priority to develop exposure  to link to  all  the Industry Technology to the staff  is Role of the University  through Industry participation  in education. Importance of automation in manufacturing sector needs to be propogated through  joint educational programs 

All the university productivity is solely dependent on the following 

1) No of projects by students whose projects are supported by Industry 

2) Technology adoption  projects to reduce production cost and improve the quality 

3) No of patents university has registered 

4)  Sustainable Green technology promotion 

Students placement is very important. For enhancing placement, the Universities must work on enhancing the skills of students to match with employers.
