Currently, I am working on some previous tidal datasets from MIKE (depth, velocity) for a certain domain, and period. I had done with extracting maximum tide and transfer them into GIS shapefile to get maximum inundation on the coastal area. But, for further analysis, I need to extract flood duration for each cell. Any related experience with that? Or perhaps any practical solution. Thanks :)
Practical (but maybe lenghty solution): you certainly have output files for a regular time step, let's say every 1 hour or every 2 hours or whatever,...so you could:
- extract each of this files in a raster gis format
- reclassify all areas covered with water to a value of 1 for all time steps
- then add (map algebra) all reclassified raster maps
- multiply the result by the time step (1 hour, 2 hours or whatever)
and this should give you the amount of time that each pixel is covered with water.
Of course you do not need to this in GIS format, you could also do some programming e.g. with python as long as you can read the native MIKE outputs.
I know for sure that you can export all MIKE output to ASCII grid files quite easily.

If you have watched water move across a relatively flat landscape, there are changes from time to time, due to logs, sticks, needles, leaves, debris, sediment accumulation, local erosion or degradation. If tidal water enters through a constrained channel, it will drain more slowly than conditions where water can move freely. Vegetation density adds roughness, affecting flooding and drainage paterns. Ditches and channels, low areas can quicken drainage. More elevation detail can be helpful, such as from LiDAR coverage and using that for DEM development. Some depressional features remain flooded for extended periods, and high quality infrared photos may help Differentiate, delineate and map them. Storm and wind patterns, moon stage, etc. add complexity.
