I often use the Fourier filtering of white noise to generate spatially correlated stochastic noise fields that look like precipitation (see an explanation of the principle here: http://www2.meteo.uni-bonn.de/staff/venema/essays/2005/online_generation_of_spatial_temporal_noise/).
Is there a wavelet-based technique to both decompose a precipitation field and generate a spatially correlated stochastic noise field?
The optimal situation would be to generate a spatially and temporally correlated noise field using wavelets.
