We would like to extract oil from jatropha seeds that we have harvested (10 kgs) from our home garden and use it as biofuel. I would appreciate if some expert could help me by giving suggestions or sending some references. Thank you very much.
It is very difficult to extract oil from seed at home. But you can use Soxhlet extractor for this purpose and also for extraction purpose you have to mix with solvent like n-Hexane. After extraction, you have to separate the solvent from oil.
@sujoy, i shall be appreciate if can share any easy protocol to extract and purified biodiesl from Jatropha seeds. Actually i would like to extract a small amount of biodiesl from our collected seeds at Home without Soxhlet extraction. I shall be appreciate if you please share details method including soxhlet and without soxhlet extractor.
It is very difficult to extract oil from jatropha seed without using Soxhlet apparatus. I like to tell you how to extract oil from soxhlet apparatus. Fiirst you crushed the seeds and poured into the soxhlet. Then you have to mix the solvent with it in this apparatus. A refulx condenser should be attached with this apparatus. After that, you have to heat the apparatus in a hot oven. I like to attach a file with my answer.
you can extract the oil by crushing the seed first then perform Transesterification process.
you can use small screw press and press 10 kg in 3 hours i have screw press and hydraulic you can see it in photo
