If you are sure you have just these two kinds of specimens and you need just to sort out which is which, you can just run series of measurements and compare (with statistical analysis) hights of Al peaks. Otherwise you do need perform full quantitative analysis.
Surely you need to use a quantitative analysis procedure. This depends on the software the producer of your EDS system has provided with your instrument. However, in order to obtain a reliable quantitative analysis, no matter what data reduction method the system applies, the thumb rule calls for:
- Use appropriate reference standards (close to the unknown composition). I.e. don’t use standardless routines and no normalization to 100% of total results.
