To follow up Christophe's answer, this may also be tested by closing the testees eyes and leaning body forward until one must step the other (faster/dominant) leg forward to gain balance (i.e not to fall on ones nose). We use this in my sports club when testing which leg should be the front one in split jerk in weightlifting discipline.
