One interesting law arising from complexity science that explains both urban and biological processes is the scaling law.
Article A unified theory of urban living
Morphogenetic urbanization;
- The territory of the city would have to be settled in successive steps, establishing a dimension of time.
- An increase in the number of inhabitants would also increase the number of actors on the environment and form of the city, thus bringing more information into the growth process.
- The geometric rules must be shared such that they reproduce symmetry from one environmental growth to another.

But, another approach would also be to think that the science of complexity does not "explain" urban morphogenesis, it might just help understanding ... its complexity and identifying some processes. I have also doubts about the concept of "traditional settlement": it is part of the research to decypher the complexity of spatial and social processes that are hiding behind it.
