How can team spirit be helpful in upgrading the level of research output?
If the team has diverse skills, level of research output definitely gets enhanced. For example, a team member is good in identifying and scanning literature, hes/her skills could be used in developing the theoretical and conceptual framework. Second member has good network of friends and acquaintances, who could be part of the target sample, then his/her skills would be an advantage in getting the responses.
Another team member is good at data analysis- inferential statistics and multivariate data analysis, then his/her skills can be used in analyzing the data. If other member is good at interpreting the results or identifying the right type of statistical test or tool to analyze the data. Basically I am addressing "division of labour" here. But the team spirit has to be demonstrated and sustained right from the inception of the research project or study till its completion. For this to occur, the project or topic of study needs to be captivating to all team members. You can take samples of published papers in any field: compare the paper publication output of joint authors and individual authors. Look at the productivity as well as quality (there could be exceptions). Actually one can write a paper on this aspect: whether team-based research output is higher (quantity as well as quality) rather than individual output ( in the same discipline or domain).

Adding to Sridhar's comment, it is important to take cognicance of diversity of skill. Co-ordinators and fieldworkers must be as NB as the academic team leading the research and be acknowledged. Each member of the team can lead a specific writing task relating to different aspects of the research project.
