I have two phases in the composite. Can you definitively say which phase in the core and what is the shell?
Did you try SAED? That would give you the crystal structure locally.
Other idea - you should have a look at the TEM-images of samples with only one phase, e.g. without adding the second phase, etching one phase away or staining one phase
What is the relationship between color and composition?
Is it true that based on the atomic mass, image color is dark or light?
for imaging yes. X-ray absorption is proportional to atomic mass³. But that is for a single atom. When you have objects of unknown 3D-shape, you need to consider that the absorption also scales with the number of atoms, it has to pass through, i.e. the sample thickness matters too. Furthermore, there are some surface effects too. So the sample darkness alone is not good enough to judge anything, except how much gets absorbed.
You are having electron beams, so I am not totally sure whether this scaling law also applies here.
