How can "complexity" be reduced within a Higher Education setting? How can academics and academic developers work together in this reducing complexity
In fact, the answer is hidden in your problem: Firstly, academicians and academic developers have to work REALLY together. Then, plans should be made for the youth we want to see 15-20 years later. In this context, academics who educate pre-school teachers are very important.
In my opinion, practical training has to be carried out effectively and related studies should gain more value. Education should be prioritized so that students can improve their life skills in daily life. Students should be encouraged to be solution-focused, think, develop themselves. Also, learning and research strategies should be taught and learning curiosity of students should be supported.
Hello: You should be more specific with your question... What kind of "complexity" are you talking about? At what level, kind of environment, etc.?
In my humble opinion, the starting point ought to be admitting that complexity exists within a system of higher education & that complexity is more negative than positive. If this opinion is accepted, then there is a problem that needs tackling.
I do not think that an environment of ambiguity, uncertainty and unpredictability "that is made by complicated approaches" will be welcome by both staff (academic or administrative) & students. No wise person will be pleased with continuous ensuing hardship & strive.
At this age of IT, many things (within educational setting) can be simplified or be run smoothly. Why some opt for a difficult rather than an easy pathway?
As an old academic, students asked me many times about the complexity of some of my courses at the onset of a semester. My usual answer has been: "Well, my duty is to simplify the "tough" or complex subjects & to make you understand them".

i think complexity is produced because of irrelavant factual information overload and the key to the solution is 'problem based learning.
