I have been trying to develop composites from PLGA (Molar ratio- 50:50) with hydroxyapatite by solvent casting technique. But the slurry formed by mixing the two components does not solidify after oven drying at 70 °C. The composite remains soft like butter and becomes brittle and collapses on increasing the drying temperature. Please help.
Solidification depends what are your's intended use of the final product. You can use chemical sequestrations (ion based), conjugation materials to provide more solidification properties as well as nano entities!
I would suggest three things to consider: 1st, your ratio's may not support a solid structure with integrity. You may need to increase the PLGA significantly. 2nd, you may not have a homogeneous composition when dried. You may need to mix differently. 3rd, you may never dry correctly by creating the material all at once. We use sprayed layers to allow thin layers to dry completely so that moisture doesn't get trapped at the core.
