We have extracted hydroxyapatite from natural sources using deproteinization and thermal decomposition process. it is found that for different deproteinization techniques, the yield of the hydroxyapatite differs although we have considered the same amount (weight) of samples. The different characterization confirms that acid treatment gives the best deproteinization as well as it also gives the highest yield. What may the reason behind this?

It would be interesting to check whether the thermal or acid treatment are leading to hydroxyapatite or carbonated hydroxyapatite.
In addition, if the acid treatment is not completely degrading all the organic phase of your hydroxyapatite precursor, your yield may be laying on hydroxyapatite mass plus organic mass.
Just curious, what kind of characterizations do you performed?
