How can one really be sure that the plants have been colonized by mycorrhizas few weeks after planting without destroying the plant to obtain the roots for colonization evaluation.
Dear Okon, higher plant height and vigour are two simple parmeters which increase with mycorrhiza. For little more details, see one thesis. It will be useful.
If you want to be certain that the growth effect is due to mycorrhizal colonisation you must assess mycorrhizal infection. The best approach is to plan your experiment with sufficient replicates to allow sequential harvesting. Alternatively, if you are short of replicates you could take the plant out of the pot and remove some roots for assessment, but this will affect the future performance of that plant.
Mycorrhizal infection and its impact on plant growth can be visualized by visual observations and comparing it with uninoculated control and also comparing it with the treatments supplemented with different doses of chemical fertilizers.
