Our local women farmers suffer so much to irrigate their vegetable crops in the dry season in southeastern Nigeria, Our soils are acidic, sandy and very porous. It does not support many irrigation systems except sprinkler and drip. The conventional sprinkler and drips systems are unaffordable by these peasant farmers. Hence the question; Are there any micro or hand-held sprinkler irrigation systems that is semi-automated from the water source, and mobile?

Under your tropical environment the vegetable irrigation should be focused on the evening to conserve the water and reduce the water losses.
The use of solar drivien shallow well can be used to pump water to an elevated position. The elevated reservior will have float shut off and the delievery value will be based on timers.
The system will have a delivery by drip tubing and the raised beds will be mulched so the water efficiency is maximized.
The components of the system can be reused.
As far as further reduction in labor the reservior can be used for nutrient application needed in the vegetable production.
