Nurses as like as all healthcare practitioners have a professional responsibility to promote good health and well-being and making health promotion and health education are fundamental parts of their daily work.How can nurses promote their role in social health education?

Over the last 15-years or so - I've attempted to 'unpack' this very question. I've been openly critical of nurses and there ability to understand and conduct effective health promotion - and health education strategy. It's not to say that nurses can't or don't do this (and there are some excellent examples of nursing-related strategy, programmes and interventions) but that, generally, it is either not done well or at all - or is mis-understood and often piecemeal and fragmented. There are many reasons for this occurring - but the main ones tend to be around lack of knowledge, training, lack of resources and support, busy task-orientated workloads and a tendency to work within systems that are more curative and bio-medically focused - than preventative and well-being-focused. You have not reviewed much in the way of Oncology Nursing. The Oncology NursingSociety is at the for front of all issues coincerning patients with cancer especially social health education. They also have developed many courses to assist nurses in identifying patient needs and ways to assist. We have PhD(s) working in many fields involving patient care and have many experts working with the US Congress on patient care issues. I am not sure that your looking in the right direction.

There is no single intervention for promoting the nursing roles. We should shift from blaming individual to blaming system. Healthy work environment, staff adequacy and training etc, helps to empower them to do.
I was a part of the "Healthcare Traveling Roadshow" in medical school. I always thought it was a fantastic way to promote interdisciplinary healthcare, recruit diversity candidates with strong ties to the community, and teach kids about health obliquely.

IT IS VERY UNFORTUNATE THAT NURSES IN INDIA ARE NOT INVOLVED IN POLICY MAKING . POLICIES FOR NURSES ARE FRAMED BY NON-NURSING PROFESSIONALS. NURSES IN INDIA ESPECIALLY B.Sc nurses ARE WELL EQUIPPED WITH MANY ASPECTS OF HEALTH.INCLUDING SOCIAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL ASPECTS , RESEARCH AND EVALUATION THAT ARE PART OF THEIR CURRICULA. .NURSING IS AN INTERDISCIPLINARY FIELD AND ITS POTENTIAL IN SOCIAL ASPECTS NEEDS TO BE WORK ED OUT IIN INDIA.
