I want to go for research (a PhD position) in basic science and engineering such as molecular engineering and computational biology. Creating computational models and software tools has become a necessity in research field. Can someone who is working in these kinds of interdisciplinary field help me  in explaining how my knowledge of computing and programming skills came from my major in CS and Advance mathematics can help in pursuing a research degree in molecular engineering and/or computational life sciences?

Edit: My basic motto is to have some expert's opinion so as to receive help to write an statement of purpose for an application towards a PhD degree in a cross-disciplinary field. I have started application but I have felt that I can do more judgement with my skills when I am in an applied field as compared to theoretical computer science.
