Small populations, particularly those who are less than fifty, are very prone to inbreeding. This, in turn, can result to development of lethal allele thus increasing the likelihood of extinction.
Inbreeding does not necessarily result to the developmental allele. It simply increases the chances of the expression of lethal alleles due to a higher likelihood of forming recessive homozygous pairs.
Whether an allele is lethal or not has no direct relation with inbreeding. Lethality is a consequence of phenotypic expression of alleles.
