I model single degree of freedom dynamic system with bouc-wen model for apply non-linearity of the system in the OpenSees software. and excited it by an earthquake excitation. However the model work linear instead of non-linear. I change the value of alpha but the model work linear again. I want to know why it not work properly and have any one any example for using bouc-wen model in opensees software?
Don't know if you are still looking for an answer but changing alpha only affects the post-yield stiffness. Karavasilis, et al., (2012) 'Seismic design and evaluation of a minimal-damage steel frame equipped with steel yielding devices and viscous dampers' may provide some insight into modelling nonlinear behaviour of steel devices/joints using the Bouc-Wen model in OpenSees. Although he has used a modified Bouc-Wen model that takes into account kinematic and isotropic hardening, I think you can still use some of the parameters to see how each one affects the hysteresis shape.
