I have 4 research questions and I am struggling with figuring out how to enter these in SPSS to get a power analysis/sample size per RQ. For the 1st RQ I can just have my 2 IV's participating and non participating levels but there are 0-5 star ratings, then for the other RQ's there are 4 different answers that need to be coded 0-4. I just can't see it in my mind. please help?
Power analyses depend on the statistical test that you are planning to use, so they are only indirectly connected to how your variables are coded. In particular, there is an important difference between using single, Likert-scored item (ordinal) versus creating a scale from a set of Likert-scored items (interval).
Also, with four research questions you will need to decide whether to design your study with a high likelihood of detecting all four, or just some of them. Designing it to detect all four will require more people, if everything else is kept the same.
