I have been analyzing a set of samples that are high in sulfate for the last few months. I have noticed that after a while a powdery yellow substance builds up on my skimmer cone resulting in more pronounced matrix effects for Li, Be, B, V, and As. It is also, nearly impossible to clean off. The best luck I have had is cleaning my skimmer with using Citrinox, then NH4OH/H2O2, then Fluka RBS, them scrubbing it every so gently with the worlds smallest and softest brush. But, alas, that doesn't even work every time and I have to throw away yet another skimmer cone.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to clean my cones without using benzene, toluene, or the like?
