You should be very carefull when mixing polyethylenes. You should remember there is different grades of PE, namely VLDPE, LDPE, LLDPE, MDPE, HDPE, UHMWPE, and other specialities. It is sometimes difficult to blend two or more of them, the different the density the harder the mix. Besides bad properties you can have melt fracture when processing and/or premature failures when being used. Adding waxes or process aids are partial solutions if there is not bleeding or glooming, besides good compatibility. Try to foresee short and long problems in order to have the best approach for your case.
If you can not increase the MFI of PE by adding some filler, and you want to increase the viscosity of PE during injection, you can just try to decrease the injection temperature?
excuse me. i made a mistake. indeed, to increase the mfi of PE, you could try to add some peroxide agent to cut the polymer chain. but it would change the properties of the materials.
Besides the suggestion made by Mr. Wang, please remember peroxides has two action modes: chain scissor and crosslinking. depending on the peroxide, temperature and PE, one mode succeeds.
Your MFI values may be with the unit of 190 degree centigrade temperature with load of 2.16 kg.
PE grade with 11 MFI can be directly used in injection molding machine with high temperature and pressure. ( Temperature range 200 -250 degree centigrade)
( Without any problem , the material flows in injection molding process)
We are producing a grade of HDPE with density about 0.960 and MFI about 6 to 8 . When the reactors powder MFI is 6.0 our granule MFI is about 6.5 and the densities are stable. We use Ca-St , 1010 and 168 additives normally and for this specific HDPE grad, we use chimassorb 944 UV stabilizer too.
Our major problem for increasing hydrogen concentration in the reactors to increase MFI to 7 or 8 for better properties, is production of Ethane as by product.
How can we reduce Ethane production in the reactors?
How can we Increase MFI of granule in the extruder?
