What is the best controlled way to protonate/dope the emeraldine base form of polyaniline to make it conductive?
Thank you Dr. Huerta. I had follow up questions.
1. Will the polymer undergo any dissolution after adding the acid solution? In my case it is in the form of a polymer coating.
2. Any other parameters that I should control? Temperature, time?
3. Is the doping permanent? or does it decay over time?
"doping" Emeraldine base to the salt seems to be easy, but isn't that easy if you want to hachieve a homogeneous "doping", because you are doping a solid which consists of nanoparticles, therefore the doping is not homogeneous. Over time, the doping acid will diffuse into the core of the nanoparticles as well.
Another issue is that you will probably over-dope, so you need to develop some rinse to remove excess acid.
A dissolution can not happen, Polyaniline is not soluble at all, in no solvent, you can look at some appropriate papers I have in my RG site.

If you have the possibility of submitting pani to a redox cycle
then protonation will take place spontaeously. Otherwise the ptotonation will take longer time. No dissolution will occur. Is pani deposited as a film or as a powder?
