Hi,

I want to measure indentation fracture toughness of a composite. I applied a load of 19.6 N with Vickers hardness tester and there was no crack at the corners of the indents. However, after appliying a load of 49 N, there are four cracks at the corners of the indents. Do I have to use the indents having cracks obtained after 49 N? When I use the indents obtained after applying 19.6 N, the fracture toughness values is higher than those obtained for 49 N case. However, I think that using indents which have no cracks is not the proper approach for calculation of indentation fracture toughness a material. I looking forward to receiving comments on the issue.
