Today, seaweed is a food item but it contains gelling agents to bond together carbohydrates. I would like to use cheap seaweed powder together with flour to make a food wrapping replacing that currently made with petroleum based plastic.
Edible Carrageenan (sulphated co-polymer of D-galactose and 3,6-anhydro-L-galactopyranose; Agarose is not so sulphated polymer than Carageenan) from red algae seems to be good. The Indonesian Biochemists have already reported (please see file; Edible film).
Edible Fucoidan (sulphated poly-L-fucose) from brown algae is the indispensable cancer drug (please see file; Rat DEN Np-Fuco), but may not to be used for edible food wrapping.
