A question about gas chromatography
I'm using gas chromatography for my research.
I am using gas chromatography in my research, and the peaks in the measurement results are rising in two steps.
I would appreciate it if you could tell me the cause and how to improve it.
Solvent is ethanol
Column is non-polar
You can do a few things:
1- Dilute your sample 10X and 100X then analyze them to see if this makes peaks better.
2- If not, perform a maintenance on your injection port (install a new liner, a new septum, and trim a few centimeters from the column end attached to the injector port).
3- If still not any better, try to modify your method parameters so that you have a different detector parameters to reduce sensitivity.
4- Lastly, consider a different column chemistry,.

I tried to dilute it, but the result was not so good.
I'm hoping to get a new septum at the end of the week.
I am using cyclohexane to extract terpenes.
At that time, we observed something in the reaction system that could not be extracted with cyclohexane.
If you know of any recommended solvents, please let me know.
Should I make the column polar?
Also, should I use split liner?

Injection technique is manual.
Injection volume is about 0.4 μL.
When I used cyclohexane, it was clean.
A Agilent 7820A GC-MS system with ultrahigh purity grade helium as the carrier gas and a HP-5MS was used. The GC-MS method was set up using the following parameters: injection temperature 250 °C, oven temperature at 40 °C initially (2.0 min hold time), 3 °C increase per minute to 130 °C, 10 °C increase per minute to 210 °C.
I'll try lowering the temperature.

I'm method splitless.
The peaks had normal shapes.
The poor chromatography , I used ethanol as the solvent.
