I've read paper concerning ICP (Inductive Coupled Plasma) in which argon gas is flowing through 1 atm environment (Just normal air). The paper assumed argon gas pressure is 1 atm. Is it possible that flowing gas in certain background pressure has different pressure from background? And I'm hardly imaging the pressure in flowing gas. Could you intuitively tell me what pressure actually means in this case?
As the flowing gas is not confined after the nozzle, the pressure should be the same as in the surrounding air. However, the situation is quite different in the pipes before the nozzle.
If you know the exit velocity of the gas you can calculate the pressure in the pipes or vice versa, but the easiest way is just to measure the pressure before the gas exits the nozzle.
Thanks for giving advices. Thus at least static pressure of flow gas in 1atm environment is also 1 atm? AndI have one more question that the pressure experimentally measured by normal pressure gauge is total pressure or static pressure?
