I am trying to develop a method of isolation or at least concentration of surfactants and additifs present in a lubricating oil. Once the surfactants are isolated, I have to identify them by analytical detection methods (GC, MS, HPLC, IR ..). I tried column chromatography, thin layer chromatography, liquid-liquid extractions and foam fractioning but it still does not give anything. Someone can help me ?
Look at the analytical methods developed and published by B.M. Milwidsky and his collaborator D.M. Gabriel. Most industrial metal working lubricants formulated in the US use paraffinic oils emulsified with Petroleum Sulfonates and secondarily emulsified and stabilized with fatty acid amine soaps. Generally Anionic systems. The additives in general categories would be for extreme pressure additives, phosphate esters, chlorine compounds and Sulfur compounds. .
